Barik Mobile

DEFINITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

What is Barik Mobile?

Barik Mobile is a CTB app that allows you to travel using your NFC-enabled mobile phone (Android or iPhone) in the same way you would use your Barik card.

Who can use Barik Mobile?

  • Be over 15 years old.
  • If you are already registered in the system and have a personalized Barik card, you can virtualize it directly within the app. If you are registered but do not have a personalized card, you can create a personalized Barik Mobile card through the app. If you are not yet registered, you can complete the registration process at a Customer Service Office. Once identified, you will be able to create your personalized Barik Mobile card directly through the app.

  • For iPhone users: An iPhone 7 or later with iOS 13 or later for checking and recharging Barik physical cards. An iPhone XS or later with iOS 17.4 or later to validate trips and travel.
  • Your phone must always have battery power in order to travel.
  • Download the Barik Mobile app from the Google Play Store or the App Store.
  • Have access to the CTB website  under the Mi Barik section.

Where can I use Barik Mobile?

How do I register?

If you are already a user of the CTB website   in the Mi Barik section (https://www.ctb.eus/mibarik/), you do not need to complete any additional steps. Otherwise, you must visit a Customer Service Office to have web access activated.

How do I access the application?

Once you have downloaded the app, you must log in using the same username and password that you use to access  the CTB website en Mi Barik section.

Why does the app ask for my personalized Barik card?

If you do not have a personalized card, the app will assign you a new Barik Mobile card. If you already have a personalized Barik card, you must follow the on-screen instructions to transfer it to the app.

Remember to keep your physical Barik card. If you decide to stop using Barik Mobile and return to using your physical Barik card, you will be able to use it again.

Can I have more than one card in Barik Mobile?

No. Barik Mobile only allows you to have your personalized card.

How do I top up my Barik Mobile card?

The Barik Mobile app allows you to top up stored-value balances and monthly tickets directly using secure payment methods such as credit card, Bizum, or Apple Pay (on iPhone devices only). The app will provide the corresponding payment receipt.

How do I validate my trip with Barik Mobile?

On Android: Unlock your phone and hold it against the validator, just as you would with your physical Barik card. Keep your phone on the validator in the same way you would when paying with a mobile bank card. NFC technology requires you to hold the phone against the validator slightly longer than a physical card.

On iPhone: Unlock your phone, open the app, tap the VALIDATE TRIP button, and hold it against the validator as you would with your physical Barik card. Keep your phone on the validator in the same way you would when paying with a mobile bank card. NFC technology requires you to hold the phone against the validator slightly longer than a physical card.

Widgets and shortcuts have also been created to make the process faster and more convenient.

Can I validate trips for other people with my Barik Mobile card?

No. Barik Mobile is a personalized card and does not support multiple-passenger validation.

Can I choose the language of the app?

Yes. You can choose between Basque, Spanish and English.

IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG

My phone is damaged. What should I do?

Simply install the app on another phone, follow the on-screen instructions, and you will be able to continue using your Barik Mobile card.

Please note that the number of times you can change devices is limited to two times per month.

I can't validate my trip. What can I do?

  • Please make sure that: You are logged in to the app and NFC is enabled on your phone.
  • Tap the Sync button (an internet connection is required).
  • If you cannot sync, log out and then log back in
  • If the issue persists, restart your phone.
  • If these actions do not resolve the problem, please send an email to CTB (barikctb@cotrabi.eus) or call Customer Service on 900 840 655

My phone has ran out of battery during a trip. What can I do?

Before travelling, make sure your phone has enough battery for the entire trip.

If you are unable to validate your trip, or if your ticket is checked during an inspection and your phone has no battery, you will be considered to be travelling without a valid ticket and may be subject to a penalty.

I want to switch back from Barik Mobile to my physical Barik card. What should I do?

If, for any reason, you no longer wish to use Barik Mobile and would like to return to your physical Barik card, you must visit any Bizkaia Public Transport Office(https://www.ctb.eus/en/customer-attention). Please make sure to bring your physical card with you. If you no longer have it, you will need to pay the fee for a replacement card.
